[A man of luxury can always recognize another man of luxury, so it should be no surprise that Lance sends Shadowmaru a gift basket of bath products. Quite a few of them are clearly homemade (as if the handwritten label that says Blue Lion Apothecary™ isn't a big fat clue):
[In answer, a day or so later (because it took him that long to get over the shock of someone sending him a Christmas gift), is a text photo of Shadowmaru himself, sitting poised in his bathrobe in an armchair, candle burning on a table beside him, and his Growlithe at his feet.]
[Someone planned out this whole pose. Just for a simple "Thank You" note.]
You'll get a present sent to you. It's a package with a gift card to a nice make-up store with a note reading, "You know a lot more about makeup then I do, so I’ll leave it to you to pick out something great. Enjoy the holidays. -Alex"
Also some hot chocolate mix and some pokemon treats.
[It is incredibly hard to buy for men that used to be robots, and buy for Youtubers or whatever alternate varieties there are. But by the blessings of the gods, he finds a Lycanroc version of "Three Wolf Moon" on a black sweater and that is the gift that he curses Shadowmaru with. Whether it's ironic or unironically appreciated.]
[When it arrives, there's a note attached.]
WORKING ON THAT EGG let me know if you like electrikes too
[With all the, ah, excitement surrounding Lugia and the glimpse of Articuno nesting, and everything else, it takes Armin a few more days to contact Shadowmaru than he had initially planned on. He hopes the offer still stands.]
If you have some time, do you think we could talk about the offer you made me during prom?
[He answers with a smile, seated at a table in his little cabin. Chin propped on his hands. There are dogs barking somewhere. It's a very serene picture.]
I do happen to have time. I appear to be made of time, these days.
[After dropping Shadowmaru a line earlier in the weekend, letting him know he'd be by on Monday morning, Armin arrives fresh and early in Olivine, Shadowmaru's address on a note. He leaves Mika and their basket of food at the pokemon centre for now, trusting that she won't do anything to it, and figuring it will be kept cooler inside than outside.
With address in hand (and frequent checks of both it and the route he noted down) Armin makes his way down to Shadowmaru's cottage, finally arriving at what seems to be the right place. He hasn't come entirely alone either. Mika might be at the pokemon centre with the food, but a regal looking Oricorio is perched on his shoulder, turning her head slightly so the ocean breeze is always at just the right angle to ruffle her feathers in a majestic manner, rather than just making a mess of things.]
This must be it, Amelia.
[Knocking on the door, Armin takes a step back and waits.]
[There's silence for a short while. He is home, of course, where else would he go? Just give him a moment to collect himself and answer... But in the meantime, someone else takes it upon themselves to do so.]
[A Yamask pulls the door open, giving a wiggling little bow to Armin and his regal bird. It then floats to one side, gesturing them to enter. Right as the AI himself steps into the room, idly tying his damp hair up. Seeing Armin, however, earns a broad grin, and a bow of his own.]
Hey, Shadowmaru. I uh... I think I wanna make you an offer. Give me a call back when you have a chance.
[He's not done very much with his Porygon, and given that Shadowmaru has no AI pokemon, it seems the right thing to do. The problem is that the Porygon's name is RK420 and uh...]
[Yup, that's going to be something he has to explain.]
[His reply is as smooth as ever. As calm as ever. It's so much easier to do over the phone than in person, after all. No need to mention happened, the complete drain of color, of energy, of life...]
[It's over with.]
Standing, attempting to deal with a sudden onslaught of fame, alas. Did you fare better than I?
[Entirely as promised, at some point, Shadowmaru is going to have a visit from a Wingull and a Dragonite. The Wingull, with her small cap and clipboard, definitely seems to be here in a supervisory position, while the Dragonite does that actual 'hard' work of delivering a stack of books to Shadowmaru. (though the Wingull won't let him take them until he has signed her clipboard.)
Armin really wasn't sure what Shadowmaru likes in terms of books --if he likes books at all-- so he tried to select some different topics and writing styles. In short order, Shadowmaru will be receiving:
- The collected works of Nuzlock Holmes - The Running Man, Dolores Claiborne, The Long Walk by Stephen Kingler - Journey to the centre of the earth by Jules Vernipede - The first three books of the Warrior Meowths series - A book on various legendary pokemon myths - A non-fiction book on prehistoric Pokemon - A non-fiction book on space
Sometime after the festival, Jane will be visited by a delivery Pidgey, bearing an envelope and friendship bracelet woven in shimmering purple and pale pink, not unlike the markings on Allura's cheekbones.
Dear Shadowmaru,
I woke up with this under my pillow last night. Keith tells me it’s a “friendship bracelet,” and I have a feeling this one belongs to you. Your energy and generosity shine brightly, and I am very grateful for the help and company you've given me during my time here.
[You know what the problem with conventions is? There are so many people around. Just... so many. Too many. And a solitary guy like Mando can only take so much socialisation in one day.]
[Which doesn't really explain why he's seeking out more socialising, but it's different when it's on his own terms, and it's someone he already knows he likes spending time with.]
[In any case, he arrives at Shadowmaru's hotel room carrying two bags. One is a messenger bag, and is cradling a brand new Pokemon egg. The other is a paper bag, with a bottle of plum wine in it. Mando went to the shop and asked for something from Japan, and this is what the shop keeper recommended. He hopes the guy knew what he was talking about.]
[He knew Mando wanted to drop by, and was definitely okay with that. More than okay, really. It's nice to see a familiar, friendly, face after knowing Lance was no longer in this world. Or - actually. Helmet, in this case.]
[It really is just a moment before he opens the door to... yeah, his hotel room really is fancy as heck. And, as always, he's dressed for the occasion. Don't worry, Mando, it's not a bathrobe.]
Welcome! Please, come inside. I'm glad to see you found my room.
[There is a certain, unalienable truth to parenthood: when the kids are busy doing their own thing, the adults should make haste to do all the stuff they don't want an audience or interruptions for. With Riz and Boober going off on a camping trip to Mount Moon (and Mando is counting the hours until he gets a sheepish call about how to set the tent up, since he always did that when they were on the road together), it's the perfect opportunity to take an adult trip, to go do adult things.]
[Adult things in this case meaning learning how to do basic metal crafting so Mando can make some Mudhorn emblems for the boys, and also whatever they can get up to in the hotel room.]
[Regarding the hotel room, Mando told Shadowmaru where he wanted to go and the dates, and then turned him loose. Mando could and probably would just crash in a tent on the outskirts of town, but he knows Shadowmaru has much, much higher standards than that and it's just easier to let him do all the deciding. Besides, they'd talked about going somewhere nice after prom, and this seems like the perfect time to do it.]
[And so Mando is a little confused at the hotel Shadowmaru has chosen. It's nice enough, from the sidewalk where they're standing, checking it out, but it doesn't exactly scream luxury. It looks like the kind of place Mando and the kids would have chosen on their own: serviceable, warm, and with a place to sleep.]
Are you sure this is the right place?
[He's not complaining! Just genuinely perplexed! Where are the fancy fountains and spa treatments and restaurant where there's multiple courses on really tiny plates? This place looks like it has none of those things!]
[Though he can see why Mando would be so confused. It looks, for all the world, like an old style house. Nothing fancy. Nothing special. It's well-kept, maintained. Appears empty. But, like Shadowmaru himself, appearances are deceiving. He'd booked this place specifically, and for good reason.]
One moment ... I have to put in a code.
[To a little key box installed on one side of the doorway. A few button taps later, two keys pop out. He extends one to Mando with a flourish.]
May I present to you, the Fuschia City Ninja House...!
[Why yes, he did say that as dramatically as possible. With a smug little grin, too. He just had to reserve the house for their stay. For a lot of different reasons. The least of which being the fact it's a Ninja House. The best of which being the dozens of secret rooms available inside. Rooms no one but the occupants can see into...]
An exciting one! Mando would be lying if he said he wasn't happy to have another Mandalorian here. But it's also been awhile since he's had to introduce anyone new to this world, and take an active part in explaining it to them. Chatting now and then on the network with a newcomer is one thing; bringing them home, getting them situated, introducing them to the kids... it's another thing entirely.
Bo-Katan is settling in well though, and Mando slips away, leaving her to be bombarded by Riz's questions. He's pretty sure he's just lost Most Favoured Mandalorian status, but that's okay. Kids need heroes, and Bo is a much better candidate than himself. He also just really, really wants to see Shadowmaru.
When he arrives at Shadowmaru's apartment, he knocks on the door and then waits to be let in.
It's been getting cooler out, lately. Especially when you live on the coast. A nice breezy day in Olivine. Windows at the cottage are open, there are dogs playing in the yard - who all look up and wag their tails at Mando. Which would probably have altered the cottage's owner, even if the knock didn't.
It's opened fairly quickly. Like Shadowmaru was expecting this. Maybe he was, given the little meeting he'd had in Cherrygrove the other day. Further cementing this idea is the outfit he's dressed in today. With his Sensu Oricorio on one shoulder, and an eyebrow already raised to his hairline.
"My dashing knight," he drawls, canting his head to the side where he stands in the doorway. "To what do I owe the pleasure?"
[Now, generally speaking, Riz is no fan of winter. It's just... too cold, and when you are only three and a half feet, any amount of snow quickly becomes a slog to get through, and that's not even talking about when snow just starts turning to sludge. Plus, while snow might make it easy to track footprints, it also means his own tracks are far harder to hide.
So, yeah, not a fan.
But there is one exception. Because while Riz might not be very fond of the general concept of winter, a snowball fight is right up his alley. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a pack of semi-feral teens to engage in snow warfare with -- truly, the bad kids' snowball fights can be downright legendary -- which means he is forced to look for other victims participants.
Boober, of course, is straight out. Snowball fights just aren't his thing. Riz knows this without even needing to ask. Mando makes for a good target, but he's also a rather big lug of a guy, and therefore not the most challenging target.
(which is not to say Riz is not planning on hitting Mando with a snowball later)
Then there is Shadowmaru. He's a ninja detective. That's practically a rogue, right? Now there is an interesting opponent. Someone who is light on their feet, and who'll be able to dodge and hide too. Now that is a target with some potential.
So, Riz is waiting for Shadowmaru to arrive on a visit, ammunition at the ready between his feet. He's perched on the edge of a roof (not theirs), a light dusting of snow covering the shoulders of his pea coat. He's borrowed Boober's hat with the ear flaps just so he can pull it down firmly and stay warm while he waits.
At long last, the familiar form of Shadowmaru materialises down the road, slowly drawing nearer. Riz picks up one snowball, cocking it back, and sitting still as a statue, waiting... waiting...
Quick as anything his hand shoots forward as he slings the snowball at Shadowmaru, aiming straight for the heart.]
[Experiencing snow had been a new novelty when he arrived here. There had been cold weather, certainly, but not snow, when he'd come online back home. It was unpleasant at first, cold and wet and sticky. Now it's quite lovely, if not cold as well.]
[So yes, he's here for a visit. To check in on everyone after what went on with Riz. He's quite concerned. Even brought gifts for them. Thankfully, it's nothing breakable, or fragile. Because - like Riz predicted - he is light on his feet, likely to dodge, and all of the above.]
[He can't say what sets him off. Only that suddenly, he's dropped the bag in the snow. His Oricorio has taken flight, and... yeah okay, Shadowmaru kind of ninja-leaped backward. In a crouch. In the snow.]
[There's no projectile to be seen. Not when the snowball landed in the snow itself. And so, his confusion provides ample opportunity for a follow-up...]
[Today, there is an unexpected visitor at Shadowmaru's doorstep. Riz doesn't usually make it all the way out here --there is no need when Shadowmaru is at their place so regularly-- but he had a gift for Shadowmaru that he wants to hand-deliver. And frankly, he doesn't want to end up having to sit on it until the next time Shadowmaru makes it over to Saffron City.
There is something rather notable about Riz today though. His hat is pulled down deep over his ears. It must just be because of the cold weather. Yes. Definitely that and no other reasons.
Riz rings the doorbell, but he is filled with enough twitchy energy that soon enough he starts knocking on the cottage door too.]
[Somewhere in the house, the dogs start barking. Hello! Hello friend! They quiet down after a little while, but there's shuffling noises. A bunch of fuzzy bodies sitting around the door to wait.]
[Riz, you can't just roll up and yell like that. People are going to assume something is deeply wrong. Which is precisely what Shadowmaru thinks. So when he throws the door open, his hair is up in a towel, and he's wearing sweats.]

Delivery, June 26
Sometime after the festival, Jane will be visited by a delivery Pidgey, bearing an envelope and friendship bracelet woven in shimmering purple and pale pink, not unlike the markings on Allura's cheekbones.

Snowball fight.
So, yeah, not a fan.
But there is one exception. Because while Riz might not be very fond of the general concept of winter, a snowball fight is right up his alley. Unfortunately, he doesn't have a pack of semi-feral teens to engage in snow warfare with -- truly, the bad kids' snowball fights can be downright legendary -- which means he is forced to look for other
victimsparticipants.Boober, of course, is straight out.

[Get him, Riz.]

Shadowmaru!

[Riz, you can't just roll up and yell like that. People are going to assume something is deeply wrong. Which is precisely what Shadowmaru thinks. So when he throws the door open, his hair is up in a towel, and he's wearing sweats.]
Riz? What-! What's the matter!
